Of those of you who have upgraded to 5.1L have your experienced anything strange with your terminals? Ours started randomly displaying garbage characters and the keyboard mapping gets lost over time (minutes - not hours/days). If we recompile the terminfo/keyinfo files and have the users log off and on again it appears to be solved. However, over time (minutes) it will start doing the same thing again.

We feel its something different in the way the new AIX is handling this service but we cannot pinpoint it yet. Anyone have any experience???

ps: the sticky bits have been turned off on the directories and files in question. This eliminates stale images in memory being used.

TIA

Hello,
In order to help need some very detail info. If you give very detail problem description then it is easy for people to help.
1) where does this happen. Does this happen on the user's desk.
2) are the users running pc with x emulation or what.
3) are they using graphics or ascii.
4) why keyboard mapping.

Me thinks - problem solved!

OK - Don't ask why but here's what I found. For some ungodly reason the two terminfo files in question had the exact same inode number. That meant that they were, in fact, the same file with two different directory entries. This was NOT a symbolic link - it was a HARD link so was sort of 'invisible' to normal eyes.

I broke one file to break the link and the next regeneration had a unique inode number.

Go figure.

Thanks to those who send suggestions.

Bob
