Upgraded from 98 to XP pro 1

Recently upgraded from 98 to xp pro. Everything runs great except I can not browse through "my computer". When I open it I get the flash light searching. I let it go for 15 up to minutes and it still couldn't find anything. I was able to get into my c: drive and any mapped network drives through run. Windows explorer didn't work either. I tried logged on to the domain and logged into the local machine and still the same thing.

Find the explorer.exe under C:/WINDOWS and delete it. Then reboot the machine. That .exe will automatically recreate itself. It controls everything you described.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Turns out the cause was from the HP 4470C scanjet. Apperently xp didn't like the driver. Disconnected it and all was good. Thanks for that KB article BCastner.
