I want to upgrade Windows 2000 Pro to XP Pro in my old Computer. I don't need any of the files on it as what I need has been transferred to my new machine.
I want to format the Format the C & D drives and start again. The old machine is a Sony notebook PCG-5316 with an external CD drive using the card slot. Will the computer recognise the external drive after formatting? The new software is full version XP Pro. with SP2 service pack.

Yes there is an external floppy drive running off the USB port

The xp cd will boot the pc, insure this before u start, then if it boots use the xp disk to repart/reformat the drives and your on your way.
