One of my machines runs Vista and I could do with upgrading it.
Bearing in mind that M$ wont want people to upgrade Vista to 8 (or 8.1) as they then get W10 for Free?
Seen this on Amazon.

Questions:
Legal?
Are there going to be extra hidden costs?
Will it work?

There are NO free upgrades to Windows 8/8.1 from Vista therefore no free upgrade to Windows 10 for you!!! But I'm sure Microsoft could care less how you get to 8/8.1 and then you can jump to Windows 10.

Are you sure your old machine is worth upgrading or has enough horsepower to run 10?

As long as your final Windows version ie 8.1 is eligible for the free update, I do not think MS cares one way or another how or from what you get there.
I updated a PC running Windows XP (since that is the only valid license I had), to 8.1, and I am still perfectly eligible to update to 10 for free.

It does not matter where you are coming from, as long as you have a legally registered and eligible OS version to update to 10 from it will be free.

In other words, you are completely free to upgrade from Vista to 8.1 if you choose to, and your machine supports the update, and then get 10 for free.

The upgrade to 8.1 will of course not be free.

No the 8.1 Licence is not Free (But at £86.95 it's not a lot), dunno if everyone can see the UK Amazon page?

Steve, I'm pretty certain you can get a legit upgrade copy of Windows 8 Pro (and hence 8.1) even cheaper than that.

Not finding anything much with a general search. This, also on Amazon
is a bit less but doesn't give much detail about what you actually get.
