Can anyone help.
I am trying to upgrade my XP Home to Pro and have a valid copy that I have slipstreamed up to all the latest service packs. I have uninstalled ie7 as I know this can cause a problem.
The error message I get is this.
An error occurred copying file apuiyoja.sys to C:\$WIN_NT$~BT\apuiyoja.sys.

I started by trying to search for the file and do a manual copy then gave up. Here's the interesting bit, when I came to have another go at installing the upgrade, I got a different file name not being able to be copied.

I am doing the upgrade from within windows.

Can anyone help as I am at a complete loss, even my IT collegues have'nt seen this one.

Regards

Olaf

the slipstream disc you are using came from the pc you are trying to upgrade?

the cleanest way may be to insert the slipstream cd and boot from it.

even my IT collegues have'nt seen this one.
someone needs to go back to school, I guess...

possible causes for the problem:

1.) memory damaged - run a full MemTest first... (memtest86+ is a good one for the job)...

2.) the slipstreamed CD was burned TOO fast... when creating bootable win CD's you need to burn the image at the SLOWEST possible speed... this is where most people go wrong...

If you are upgrading disable any virus scanners and other non-firewall security programs that might be running in the background.

An alternate to the upgrade might be a clean install and using the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard beforehand?

Agree with BigBadBen either fault memory or disc problem. Maybee even a scratched disc.
