Hi,

I've 2 window 2k server machines, both are DC, one has Exchange 2000 server on it. Both window and exchange are in Native Mode. I'm getting 2 new machines to replace the existing machines. My plans:

1) a) install 2003 server on one of my new machine
b) join 2000 domain as member server
c) install 2003 exchange with all updates and sp
d) Move the mail boxes from exchange 2000 server over

2) a) install 2003 server on the other new machine
b) join 2000 domain as member server
c) run dcpromo to make it DC
d) FSMO to make it DC
e) Promote exchange 2003 server as DC also
f) turn-off the 2 win2k servers

Is this a ok plan to proceed or not? what problems I might encounter. is there a better plan for this project?

Thanks

Kevin

You shouldn't run Exchange on a DC...and why go to Exchange 2003 when 2007 is out?

Otherwise essentially your steps are good. Don't forget DHCP and DNS and any other services as well. Once you're sure the old 2000 servers are ok being "off", don't forget to DCPROMO them out of the domain before retiring them.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!
