We are running Symantec Antivirus 9 in our organization and just recievd SAV 10 through the maintanence program. So, I downloaded it, registered it and got the license file.

I removed the Symantec Console with SAV 9 as the first upgrade attempt failed and said I had to do this first. Then I installed SAV 10 Server selecting the Delopy Server option and the upgrade option. Everything went through fine, I then installed the new console. However, I couldn't for th elife of me get past the unlock server group it kept rejecting the user/pass. In 9, you don't specify a user, only a pass the user defaulted to "admin"...I was using the same combination as the installation didn't ask for a new one.

I then unistalled SAV altogether and tried installing 10 as a fresh install...everything went through fine, I set a user/pass and could get into everything. However, when I try to install the license file, the wizard keeps erroring and won't install it.

So, I though maybe it HAS to be an upgrade for our license, and unistalled EVERYTHING. Installed 9 fresh, installed the license file, then upgraded to 10.....can't unlock the group again.

I have no idea what to do now. I have reverted back to 9 as it's the only way I can seem to keep it running.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,
Hammy

Update:

I tried again, following all the instructions I could muster. However, no go same issues as before. So I uninstalled everything, and wentback to 9 from the start. However, the System Center (the 9 versioN) shows my (old) 9 license as not found or expired and when I go to the Manage License Seat Allocations dialog, and try to install the license, I get "Symantec license management snap-in components are missing or not installed properly". And I can't install my license.

Soooo, I now have SAV 9, with SSC 10, which the indicattions are (according to the SSC 10 install) that they aren't compatible...though it appears to be working fine.

We have many troubles with 10. Not the ones you are having (mostly client related), but enough so that we are holding back on upgrading our clients.
This is the worst rollout by Symantec yet.

You might want to try the new build that is out 10.0.1.1000, it fixes some of the issues from the original version 10.0.0.359.

With Symantec, you might want to go through the registry , "find" anything with "Symantec", and delete the keys. The legacy entries are OK to leave. If Symantec 10 behaves as usual there are many entries left after the program removal. RegCool lets you search, display, replace hundreds of entries at a time.

Then delete any Symantec directories in \program files and \program files\common. Symantec generally has a registry cleaner to remove their AV, not sure with ver 10, general does a descent job, but does not remove all entries.

Chernobyl disaster..a must see pictorial

I'm downloading the updated version now (release 1 July 05), but while that's happening anyone have a link or paste what was fixed or improved? Symantec doesn't even show a product update beyond version 8.x on their pages!

Where can I get 10.0.1 from? ... I currently run 10.0.0.359 without issues...

If you downloaded the previous version from fileconnect.symantec.com you can go there again and download the updated full version. You just need your license serial number for SAV 10.x to continue from the first page...

Just one thing I have noticed, it seems installing 10.0.1.1000 changes back to the old scan engine version that was used with 9.0. Has anyone else noticed this ?
