When we upgrade our small system rls 4.0 PBX to rls 5 I am told the TN's will automatically convert from 2 fields to 4 fields during the upgrade. We have a number of IP sets on the system. Will we have to go to each set and reboot it and put the node number and the "new" TN in?

Yes you will.

No that is not correct. If you upgrade the system and keep the NODE the same, the TNs will convert in the system database to the large system format from c u (card unit) to l s c u (loop shelf card unit), as well as on the phones themselves. Logic has been put into the system to deal with this.

If you assign a new NODE, then yes, you will have to visit the phones.

Thank you 911guru. The sets did magically change their TN, that was a relief because I did not relish the idea of going to each set, rebooting each one and re-entering the TN.
Just a few notes for anyone else looking at doing this.. we did have to get into all the SRG's, modify the MOTN and redirect the sets. We also had to change the Branch Offices' MOTN (We did not upgrade the Branch offices otherwise this step would not have been needed) You will also need to change callpilot from an 11c in config wizard and redo the TNs in 4 field format. Symposium needed the TN's changed too. The TMDI pack needs to have loadware T1E1AA19.lw installed. Ours showed it already had it but we had to reload it to be able to do a FDL. We were getting TMDI207 before we redid the firmware and initialized. New Keycodes are required for symposium and MICB to refernce the new dongle ID that comes with the 5.5 software. Another thing to keep in mind is you are going to need additional ELAN and TLAN ports on your data switches since you are installing MGC cards. If you are using a 8 port hub for the ELAN with callpilot, symposium, cpu, otm, a few MC32 cards you could easily not have ports to plug in 2 more MGC cards.. Bottom line is, give yourself plenty of time. This isn't a quick and easy stick a PCMCIA card in and walk away in 45 minutes like upgrades used to be! ;) Hope this info is useful.

Thanks for that extra info danlwh. There is bound to be a bit of extra work as you are changing from small to lare format. And thankfuly you have pointed out areas a lot of people will forget about planning for.
