I have just purchased a new Dell Server that requires R2. I purchsed R2 and getting ready to install it. I just have a few questions.

Current Setup.
1) Windows 2003 Server SP2 (Non -R2) - Domian Controller
2) New Server Server will install 2003 Server R2
3) 2 x 2000 Servers - Member Servers
4) 2003 Server - Member Server

I know i need to upgrade the Schema 1st prior to running adprep.

My question is do i need to upgrade my existing 2003 (non R2) domain controller to R2?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

if you are install the server as a member server then you dont need to update the schema.

But my question would be why are you still deploying windows 2003 and not moving to 2008(R2).

You only need to prep the schema if you are updating your domain controllers

I can upgrade to 2008(r2) as thats the verison i purchased. I was going to do a downgrade. Is the process still the same to bring in a 2008 domain controller?
