upgrade to gnome 1.4 - help!!

Hello,
I downloaded gnome 1.4, and burned the tar balls onto a cd. I am currently running gnome 1.2. How do I upgrade to 1.4? If I am doing something wrong please let me know. I am very new to Linux. I just installed RH 7.1, and I was dissapointed to find out that it didn't come with 1.4. Please give my advice.

Use kpackage (in KDE). You should be able to get the RPMs - although kpackage will handle tarballs as well.
