I am interested in finding anyone out there who has upgraded from Seagate Info 7 to CE9. I want to be able to repeatedly perform this action in our Test Room first so I assume that I want to install Seagate Info 7 cleanly on a Test Server. Then move all of the reports, cinfo, etc over to the Seagate Info 7 Test box. Then I want to install CE9 on another server in our Test Room and use the Import wizard to move all of my folders, users, reports, etc over to CE9.

My biggest concern is ensuring that the Test Server Seagate Info application mirrors our production Seagate Info before I perform the import.

Has anyone out there already done the upgrade to CE9 from Seagate Info 7 and can you suggest documentation to do this and any gotchas I should be aware of before doing this?

Regards,
Bessebo

I need to perform an upgrade from Seagate Info 7.5 to CE9
as well. Unfortunately, Crystal Decisions does not provide any documentation.
I sent an email to their tech support with the following:
We need to upgrade to CE9.0 and are currently on SI7.5.
Can I install CE9 on the same server as SI7.5?
Are there any documents addressing this issue?

They responded with:
We recommend installing to a new serve for a few reasons:
1. Does not interrupt production.
2. Installs properly with no problems.
3. After base install works, you can test the new system with your production reports and work out any issues that may arrise.

Did you end up installing CE9 on the same server with SI7?
If so, did you have any problems? Did you end up removing SI7? Ultimately, I will want CE9 on the server that we are currently running SI7.5 on with SI7.5 removed. Any recommendations you have are greatly appreciated!

Actually we are purchasing a new server for CE9. I understand that you may have money constraints and may not be able to do this. There may be some licensing issues with having them both on the same server. There is an import wizard that will allow you to import object (reports, folders, users, etc) from your Seagate Info server to your new server. I also think that using a different server would make sense. You probably have good justification to purchase a new one just with the comments from Crystal Decisions. Maybe you can move Seagate Info 7.5 to a different server for a short period and then install CE9 on the server that you currently have SI 7.5 on and perform the import. In any case, you probably need to have another server...

Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, we just purchased a new server when we upgraded to SI7.5 last year. I do have a test server to use, though. Any advice on moving SI7.5 to the test server?

I've used this method before and it works like a charm. It is assuming that you already have installed Seagate Info on another server. Granted this was for SI7 but I would imagine it would be the same for 7.5.
If you already have Seagate Info installed on a server and you want to move the Cinfo.mdb and all of the historical reports, etc over to the new server here are the steps.

1) Copy everything from the input, output, and cache folders from the old server to the new server.
2) Shut down the Info APS service on both servers, old and new.
3) Copy the Cinfo.mdb on the old machine over to a network shared drive.
4) Go into the new server ODBCSUPT folder and rename the Cinfo.mdb over to Cinfo.old.
5) Copy the Cinfo.MDB that you copied to the shared drive over to that same folder.
6) Go into ODBC and do a repair and compact using the DSN that was already there. Or, if needed, created a new ODBC DSN and do a repair and compact.
7) Now go into Info Configuration Manager and go to the APS tab. You have to be at the server or you won’t see this tab. Click on the ‘Select a data source’ option and choose the DSN that you had just created.
8) Click on the Info Stores option and select the radio button that says ‘I have renamed a computer and I want to update the Info datbase to reflect that change. Put in the old machine name and then the New machine name and click Finish. Exit Info Configuration Manager.
9) Go to Control Panel, Services and restart the Info APS service.

Thank you for the instructions on moving our SI75 to another server.
Did you successfully install CE9 on the new server?
Did you use Crystal Decisions consultants?

We are in the process of identifying the proper server for our Test environment. I should be performing this install over the next week or two. My email address is: bbessette@sensitech.com if you want to email me directly. I plan on performing the install on my own,
