I am attempting to upgrade from arcserve 6.61 to arcserve 2000 and keep the database from the old arcserve. I have inquired with arcserve and there suggestion tis to install arc2000, copy the database, the cal_lic, and the job queue folders (0000001.qsd) to the new install. When I do this the database engine will not start (timed out message). My concern is performing furture restores from arcserve2000 when i don't have the database to located files on the tapes. Can anyone give me any suggerstions for how to do this or any alternatives? Thank in advance for your help.

Judy,

It is possible that your 6.61 database is of the RAIMA type, ARCserve 2000 uses the VLDB ( enhanced RAIMA ) database. If so you first have to upgrade the old database to VLDB using the 'dbtovldb' utility located in the ARCserve home directory. You can also start with a total fresh installation and rebuild your database from scratch with the new backup jobs. Old tapes can always be read by ARCserve by using the 'merge' option ( under utilities ) that puts the file-and-folder info of an old tape back into the database.

Hope I'm clear

regards
