Upgrade to AI R55 from R54

i am planning to upgrade AI R54 smartserver to AI R55 smartserver. Should I be following certain steps to make the migration smoother? What will be my failover plan if it does not work?

This is on solaris

Failover, make sure you have a good backup of the FW prior to proceeding with it, we (the Unix team) will flare it. If you can have a test box to go through a trial upgrade first to work out any issues and test minor features.
