I am currently runnning exchange 2000 with active directory in 2000 native mode with about half 2000 dc's and half 2003 dc's.

Do i need to upgrade my 2000 dc's to 2003 before installing exchane 2007. All dc's in the site where exchange will be installed are 2003. I have read conflicting notes on if all 2000 dc's have to be upgraded.

Can i raise my domain functional level to 2003 without a problem with my current config?

Thanks
Nick

All of the DCs in the site that contain Exchange 2007 need to be 2003 or higher. If you have 2000 DCs in other sites, Exchange servers will log errors that they see them, but they will work.

Thanks for the star. Keep in mind that the overall recommendation is to upgrade those DCs. There are some known issues in larger environments with some features for users in the AD sites with 2000 DCs.

Good time to move to 2008 on the DCs.

But don't install Exchange on the 2008 DC as a) It isn't supported and b) things break.

Once I work out exactly *what* breaks, I'll be blogging all about it!!
