I bought the new iMac G5, and gave my husband my purple G3. Is there a way to use the OS 10.3 CD for the G5 to upgrade the OS 10.1 on the G3? Or will it only work on a G5?

Lets see If I can answer this. The G3 iMac will need at least 256 meg of RAM to run OSX (512 meg is better) and if the HD is larger than 7 gig it needs to be partitioned so that OSX is in the first 7.4 gig partition. Once that is done, a legal copy of 10.3 is $129.

All this is very close to the $499 a Mac Mini would cost and it is 4 times faster than puple one.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

My G3 (500mhz blue Imac) runs OSX 10.3 fine with 128mb of RAM.

It isn't the fastest computer in the world, but it'll run things like photo shop or dreamweaver, so is still useable. I keep it as a backup machine.

It also has a 20gb hard disk. No idea what the partitioning thing is about - I didn't do it.

Of course this doesn't get arond the licence issue. You should get another licence . . .

The G3 already has a partition with 10.1 on it (legal, bought version), plenty of RAM and 10gigs HD. The question is whether the 10.3 disk for the G5 will install on the G3, or does it require a G5? It's not of major importance, since my husband only uses the OS9.2 partition, but a few things require OSX, and it would be nice if both computers had the same version of OSX.
