We are looking to upgrade our databases from SQL 6.5 running on NT to SQL 2000 running on Windows 2000. I have been told that it may be worth upgrading 6.5 to 7.0, backing up the database, wiping the server and loading windows 2000 & SQL 2000 then restoring the backup.

This seems a long way round, does any body have experience of upgrading 6.5 to 2000 and then windows NT to windows 2000? Are there any problems? Would our server be more efficient if we started from scratch?

I upgraded one of my SQL 6.5 DB's using the SQL Server Upgrade Wizard. I didn't have any problems at all, just make sure you read all documentation first as it can be tricky and there are some precuations you have to carry out before upgrading, hope this helps.
