Hi,

Are there any major issues to consider when upgrading version 6 or 7 to version 8? I just mean general snags and areas of concern, not totally specific issues. Is there a list of known issues somewhere that I can download?

Thanks for your help.

umm ... backup the whole system first ...

sendmail configuration has changed significantly ...
umm, CDE got better (less crashes)

disk space required is significant, more than 6 or 7 ...

/usr + /usr/openwin needs 900Mb, plus any non-standard stuff, and that was a problem for us in upgrading (we had specified a 600Mb partition for Sol7, and had to destroy the Sol7 to install Sol8, not upgrade)

umm ... but it seems to do a lot of stuff ok.

I still recommend the full backup first.

ohh ... if you're using i86pc, and you have ISA cards in your machine, there is a lot less support for them, especially SCSI cards, you'd best check for compatability first (you can also check by booting to the floppy disk/cdrom and checking the device configuration for any unknowns or missings)

Thanks jad! That helps a lot. I will pass this on to our UNIX admins.
