upgrade question

hi,
i downloaded mysql 4.0.24 and installed it...the problem is there is no mysql daemon that seems to be installed....when i type: "service mysqld status" it gives "mysqld: unrecognized service". I am not sure I installed it correctly although i can access all the databases and all the necessary modules...what might i be doing wrong???

OS? If win, try looking for mysql not mysqld
