I recently installed a Partner Mail VS 5.0 hard drive in a previous 3.0 Partner Mail VS module.
The unit fires up [ steady green light] and goes thru a test but the voice mail ports stay busy and the green hard drive light keeps flickering.
I have the 2 ports assigned correctly in # 505 [ last 2 extensions on the board ] and I always program the 2 extensions on a set to have a visual indicator to see which ports are answering or being used.
In my case both extensions/ports stay steady red.
So my question is,... if I install a 5.0 hard drive in a 3.0 module, should it work as a 5.0 or is there a limitation on a chip or other component that would keep the unit at a 3.0 and not be able to upgrade and therfore not work or should I send the hard drive back for another one.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks[lipstick2]

Different Animals. Motherboard and chip differences. If you notice, the VS5 has a single LED and the VS1 & 3 have triple LEDs. Even the 1 & 3 can't be switched and they look the same. Best bet is to order a complete new mail, one release or the other. Depends on their needs.

R5 adds:

Multiple auto attendants
Outcall notification to cell or pager
48 mailboxes
Call screen if ACS R3 or higher
4 port supports record if the system is ACS 3.0 or higher.
Enhancements to mailbox size, personal operator press 0 action, centrex transfer on main greeting,
Really nice is that VS5 differentiates between new and old messages and offers forward with comment.

Hope this helps.

You can't put a VS5 hard drive into a VS3 circuit board. It won't work properly. You need to either get a VS3 hard drive or get a new mail.

I'll add my agreement to what has already been said. You'll need to purchase a hard drive with R3 software loaded, or an R5 Partner Mail VS.

Given the age of the PMVS, upgrading to an Avaya Partner Messaging might be worth considering. [smile]

[2thumbsup]Thanks to all for the reply...It's what I suspected but I had to ask after researching the question and I did not come up with anything as far as changing the hard drive.
A star for all for taking the time and sharing!
