Hi everyone,

I am trying to get from version 3 release 7 to version 4 release 5. Can that be done in a single pass or do we have to do it into multiple iterations? Also, does anyone know a good source of documentation for this?

Thanks,

The IBM automatic way is moving at most 2 levels, say going from 4.1 to 4.3. I believe there have been database changes that will impact you. My advise is check with a business partner, or go directly to IBM. In this case I do not believe you can save the user information, and then do a reload of the system. I ran into the same sort of problem, when I tried to go from 4.5 to 5.2. I first had to go to 5.1, then up to 5.2. Have you done the CISC, to RISC upgrade, or is 3.7 still CISC based?

V3R6 and up is RISC, so that would not be an issue.

However, you can usually jump only two releases at a time when upgrading, and I'm not sure that's possible; I don't think those old releases are supported anymore. Additionally, you have the problem with saving/restoring because the restore commands only go back so many releases.

The best thing to do is to contact an IBM business partner. You might be better off with a new box at V5R3. They can help you with the upgrade and saving/restoring your libraries, programs, user profiles, etc.

Feles mala! Cur cista non uteris? Stramentum novum in ea posui!
