Hi,

we had copy Oracle 8.1.7.0.4 from an AIX system 4.3.3.0 to an AIX system 5.2.0.0 and now we want to upgrade this Oracle on the AIX 5.2 to Oracle 9.
Is it possible to upgrade on this OS?
Thank you in advance...

Oracle 9i only work on 64 bits so if your server has met the h/w capabilities then it is fine.

I am using oracle 8.1.7.4 and we had plans to upgrade it to ORacle 9i but unfortunately our server only runs on 32 bits so no luck :-(

5.2 is installed with 64-bit filesets even if you did not enable it during installation. I have not tried the following myself so you may want to research a little. You should be able to change the environment with smit load64bit which will take you to a sub menu where you can decide if you want to enable now or at System Restart.

oracle 9.2 works for single node and miltinode installation on 32 bit and 64 bit also.before upgrading the os ,first upgrade oracle to 9.2 and then migrate to aix 5l.we have tested the same thing on our site and it works.pls don not upgrade os first otherwise u have to to reinstall oracle 9.2 in another filesystem and u have to copy the software part and admin and dsm directories to old oracle home.u have make some changes in files also.
