Has anyone done an upgrade from 4.2.1 to 5.3 on an AIX box which is either an F50 or J50 model such as 7013 and 7025. Do let me know what problems you have encountered.
Thanks
NIcholas

I know for sure you cannot go to 5.3 because it won't be released until next yesr (2004), but it won't cause you any problems. I have migrated a few SP nodes to 5.1 and am migrating another one this weekend and have never had any problems with the migration.

I wouldn't think a J50 (and F50 even) were supported with AIX 5??

Hi,

AIX 5.3 is not out yet, AIX 5.2 has just been released. IBM have dropped MCA support in 5.2, so it will not install on the J50, the F50 will support AIX 5.2 as it has the chrp architecture, it will also not support rspc architecture (The older 7043's etc) I may be installing AIX 5.2 on a apare F50 next month.

Yes, I spoke to IBM and I was told the CHRP F50 model will be supported with the migration to a 5.2.
The RS6K chipset Model j50 won't be supported but you can go to a 5.1 OS. This is a possibility. I am more concerned with the low spaces I have
1024-blocks Free Used
/ 163840 38248 77%
/usr 1114112 602364 46%
/var 32768 20496 38%
/tmp 327680 298424 9%

With these number, will I run in to any space issues as it should check for space before it installs, perhaps that would take care of it, but then what if I am left with just a few blocks?

I will suggest the migration but the management has to take the risk. I know it can be done.
