hi

I want to upgrade my Sun Solaris server from 2.6 to v8. could anyone give me an overview of the process.

does the box have to be clear of other software or can existing software be kept during the upgrade?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

regards
Mat

Things to check prior to upgrade:

1. Is disksuite in used
2. Is Veritas in use
3. Any disk management software in use (RM6), is the
version of RM6 compatible with Sol 8 and check patches.
4. Be sure to check patches for Sol 8
5. Check your apps's documentation about upgrading to Sol 6. Do a backup priot to the upgrade
7. You will have option to do a full install or upgrade
DO THE UPGRADE!

make sure you have a full backup of the system. keep a copy of configuration files, esp. sendmail.cf (if you have modified it) and any asppp stuff (if you use it)
