I think I confuse myself by reading into things too much.

I have a customer with an IP500 on 4.2 going to 7.0. They have licenses for 4 VCM channels. Those get converted to IP endpoint licenses, for a total of 12 IP endpoint licenses. That much I understand. A VCM 32 in the newer software gets you 12 'virtual' IP endpoint licenses. Is it correct that the system will have 24 IP endpoint licenses after the upgrade to 7.0, or will it only have 12? I've seen things that make me think both ways, and my head is starting to spin a bit. They have 15 IP sets on the system and I don't want to end up short.

Thanks in advance.

I think I finally found my answer. Why I didn't check the marketing tools site first is beyond me.

So, I assume I should see 4 channel migration licenses and 12 Avaya virtual IP endpoint licenses when I'm done.

Sorry for sounding ignorant - I came into the IPO world in release 6.0.

Channel Migration
These licenses were previously called IP500 VCM Channels. In pre-IP Office Release 6 systems, these license were used to enable additional VCM channels on IP500 VCM32 and IP500 VCM 64 cards. For IP Office Release 6 these license are no longer required. Any present in the configuration of systems upgraded to IP Office Release 6 are renamed Channel Migration. Each Channel Migration license instance enables support for 3 Avaya IP phones.

The system will automatically license 12 Avaya IP phones for each IP500 VCM 32 or VCM 64 card installed in the system without requiring additional licenses to be added to the configuration.

You will end up licenced for 24 Avaya IP endpoints, 12 from the card and 12 from the old VCM licence :)

Thanks for the confirmation. I was digging through various docs and kept coming up with the 12 virtual licenses for the VCM 32. I didn't realize that there were 4 unlicensed channels on the VCM 32 back in the pre 6.0 days. I thought all channels had to be licensed. Maybe one of these days licensing will stay the same from one release to another.

Have a star for saving some hair on the side of my head.
