When I upgrade from Win 95 to Win 98 everything works fine except:

I can log on to my ISPs but Internet Explorer, OutLook Express and Netscape Navigator will not communicate. The following error is returned -

res://C:\windows\system\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm

All my telepohony setting lookOK and I have tried removing and re installing Int Explorere etc. but they still do not work.

I have uninstalled Win 98 and everything is back to normal and works fine.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

have you considered a full install of win98 rather then the upgrade...sounds like the two don't want to play well together. I tend to always recommend a full install of any application/OS rather then an upgrade, that way if there is a problem you don't have to troubleshoot 2 different things. In this case it would probably be dfficult tracking down what in win98 is conflicting with something in 95..

pcheather@home.net

make sure that in your dialup network settings, the dns settings are correct. the error that the browser is returning is saying that it doesn't know who to find <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> IF you try going to the command prompt and try typping tracert 209.63.53.12 or some address like that, it should start showing you the hops that it is making to get to that address. If it makes the hopes then the problem is with the dns settings, and you get them from your isp.
fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

Fenris as a good thought there . I too would set up DNS and also set up a dial up network directly to your isp . Also make sure that your browsers are set up for dial up access .

I'll have to throw in two bits here. I once experienced a very similar problem while upgrading to '98. Everything looked like it should work but it didn't.
My solution was to go to a different machine and download the updated modem drivers from DriverZone.com.
Window's doesn't always know the best way to handle hardware and you have to give it a nudge in the right direction.

<a href= plain black box
