Upgrade from Win 7 4

When Win 8.0 came out, I heard that there were some difficulties with the upgrade from Win 7.x, with significant manual intervention required. Is the upgrade easier to Win 8.1? "First Hand" experience preferred, but also happy to get second hand reports if you consider them reliable.

Thanks. I had heard that the upgrade from XP to 8 was rather seamless, but that from 7 to 8 was very bad. And from your referenced thread, it's no better with 8.1

I can't imaging going from XP to 8.x would be easy. There are usually the headaches that hardware running XP is really underpowered by current standards and hardware drivers would be less likely to be available.

Windows 7 to 8.x ought to be far easier.

Going from 8.0 to 8.1 posed a few obstacles too, mostly drivers again but also the need to be "fully patched" before an 8.1 upgrade would go forward.

I actually performed the update from XP to 8. As XP was the only Windows version I had fully licensed at the time for the update to work off of.

I did get a few issues, surprisingly not due to drivers or anything of the sort though.

I'm sure the transition from 7 should go smoother. Though there is no way to guarantee 100% smoothness.
