I have the CNA_st_bc12_sp8, what is the best way to upgrade the MD from sp6?

Hi,
you need to use ESD (Ericsson Software Distributor)
program from SAM package delivered by Ericsson

here's the implementation instruction from E///

[tt]
3.1 Implementation Instruction
3.1.1 General implementation instruction
The CNA files are used for automatic update by the SAM toolbox Ericsson Software Distributor (ESD) application. For more information see the ESD manual). The following steps should be performed:

Copy all .cfg files, which are placed in the subdirectories .. bc12xx.SP08 esd helpfile.* to the Distribution files (.CFG, .INI) path defined in the menu item Options>Settings.

Set up the job in the ESD by choosing the menu item Job list>New>Job list file and follow the Job Wizard.

The ESD tool can be used if the customer's PABX is entered into the customer database, which is administrated by the Customer Database Administrator.

Select the file bc12sp00tosp08xx.cfg for updating from BC12 SP0 to SP8 or bc12sp07tosp08xx.cfg for updating from SP7 to SP8 ( xx denotes the application system version, for example st for standard system).

Select Continue with or without firmware switching. If continue without firmware switching is selected, the firmware update shall be done manually after the system upgrade has been completed.

Continue with the instructions for updating from SP0 to SP8 or the instructions for updating from SP7 to SP8.

Note: Several of the IO handling units are changed by removing or loading the unit from the system. The impact of this is that the authority class for commands handled by those units will have default authority class after the ESD is ready. Therefore, if the authority classes used in the system are changed from default values, it is necessary to reinitiate them again to the wanted classes.

See the instruction described below and the consult the readme file that can be found in the subdirectory ... bc12xx.SP08 Miscellaneous .

3.1.2 Implementation Instruction for Updating SP0, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4, SP5 and SP6 to SP8
The following instruction describes how to update to SP8 from any of the Service Packs on BC 12 before SP7:

Remove all CAS extensions (EL7) and related data if used in the system.

Remove all Integrated Voice Mail related data if used in the system.

Remove all IP-networking related data if used in the system. The commands RODDE, ROEQE, RINIE and ROUTE must be entered in the stated order to remove the IP-networking data. Verify that no IP-networking exists in the system with the commands RODAP and RINIP.

If IP-extensions are used in the system, the following three steps need to be carried out before continuing:

Install the new DBC 42x telephone firmware on the Software Web server.

Unregister all IP-extensions by entering the command IPURI:DIR=ALL,FORCE=YES;

Remove all IP-extensions and related data with the commands IPEXE, IPBOE and IPGDE. Verify that no IP-extensions exist in the system with the IPEXP and IPBOP commands.

Make a printout of the AS parameters used by QMP, MMP, ELDP and TLP65. The parameters need to be reinitiated after the upgrade if they have been changed from the default values.

Make a printout of the following AS parameters:

For QMP: PARNUM 107, 125, 126, 127, 128 and 194
For MMP: PARNUM 7, 90, 95, 100 and 223
For ELDP: PARNUM 181
For TLP65: PARNUM 158, 223, 235, 236, 237, 238 and 250

Make a printout of the command categories for all commands if the authority classes have been changed from the default levels. Create a log file named IOCAP and transmit the file IOCAP11.CMD that can be found in the subdirectory ... bc12xx.SP08 Miscellaneous .

Make a printout of the traffic matrix for conference. Create a log file named TCMAP and transmit file TCMAP.CMD found in the subdirectory ... bc12xx.SP08 Miscellaneous .

Choose the menu item Update > Start in the ESD tool. ESD will now update the system automatically. Wait for the ESD tool to complete the operation.

If the Continue without firmware switching was selected when running the ESD, all ELU32 boards should be manually upgraded with the new firmware, CAA 158 0022 R4G. If the upgrading application firmware for ELU32, it is recommended to upgrade FPGA with new TIF firmware.

Reinitiate the IP-networking again if used in the system.

Reinitiate all IP-extension related data again if used in the system.

Reinitiate all CAS extension related data again if used in the system.

Reinitiate all Integrated Voice mail data related data again if used in the system.

Reinitiate the AS data again which where printed out in the installation process. Check with command ASUVP that the data in the system is consistent.

Reinitiate the authority class for all commands which where printed out. Use PCREG to convert the created log file IOCAP to initiation commands.

Reinitiate traffic matrix for conference. Use PCREG to convert the created log file TCMAP to initiation commands.

FR 100269 in EAP1 swaps the meaning of bit D24 and D25 in the ADC parameter to make it consistent with BC11.

After performing the update with ESD it is necessary to key RODDE on the DEST codes that have D24-D25 set to 01 or 10. Swap them and key RODDI again.

Note: For DEST codes that have D24-D25 = 00 or 11, no action was required.

If the ACD feature Multi Member Busy is used, the ACD agent/member data needs to be updated to the changed way of initiating the MMB feature. See the Customer Product Information (CPI) contained in the ALEX database.

Make a system dump.

Check the result of the system update using the MD Inventory Tool.

The reference .mcc is placed in the subdirectories .. bc12xx.SP08 mcc. For more information, see the MD Inventory Tool Manual.

For the DBC 22x firmware and font file update it is necessary to manually copy the files to the HDU file system. To perform the update, follow the instructions for CNTLI.

Note: All callback missions will be lost during the upgrade when QMP is switched. Switch of MMP will cause disturbance to the conference/intrusion feature

To affect the new message waiting ton for AS China Startphase 1.5 is needed and the TMU board must be restarted.

Cheers,
Daddy

wow, thanks for the info.
how long does the upgrade take? our voicemail system uses CAS extensions for the individual voicemail numbers, so i need to reallyknow how long the voicemail would be out while upgrading.

depends on how many lims you have...

E/// is a bit lazy regarding giving exact info what to EXACTLY for a specific SP upgrade.

in your case, you don't need to deprogram anything (in contradiction what E/// is telling in their implementation instructions)

here's the implementation instruction for SP6 to SP7

Code:
3.1.3 Implementation Instruction for Updating SP6 to SP7
The following instruction describes how to update from SP6 to SP7:

Choose the menu item Update > Start in the ESD tool. ESD will now update the system automatically. Wait for the ESD tool to complete the operation.

If IP-extensions are used in the system, install the new D3/D4 IP telephone firmware on the Software Web server and unregister all IP-extensions using the command IPURI:DIR=ALL,FORCE=YES;

Make a system dump.

Check the result of the system update with MD Inventory Tool.

The reference .mcc is placed in the subdirectories ../bc12xx.SP7 mcc. For more information see MD Inventory Tool Manual.

now for SP7 to SP8 :
Code:
3.1.3 Implementation Instruction for Updating SP7 to SP8
The following instruction describes how to update from SP7 to SP8:

Choose the menu item Update > Start in the ESD tool. ESD will now update the system automatically. Wait for the ESD tool to complete the operation.

If IP-extensions are used in the system, install the new D4 IP telephone firmware on the Software Web server and unregister all IP-extensions using the command IPURI:DIR=ALL,FORCE=YES;

Make a system dump.

Check the result of the system update with MD Inventory Tool.

The reference .mcc is placed in the subdirectories .. bc12xx.SP8 mcc. For more information see MD Inventory Tool Manual.

Note: All callback missions will be lost during the upgrade when QMP is switched.

To affect the new message waiting ton for AS China Startphase 1.5 is needed and the TMU boards must be restarted.

so to resume all of this...

upgrading from SP6 to SP8:
IF you have IP extensions, make sure you upgrade the phones to the latest firmware, the boards are upgraded via ESD. and that's it! so the downtime is 0, make sure you do this during low traffic though.

Daddy out
