My system right now has a R3 processor and I am trying to upgrade to a R7 processor. I have WinSPM and I tried to back up the system, then reformat the upgrade file and restore it but I am having problems doing that. I also tried to backup the system on the memory card and swap the processors out and restore the backup file but it kept telling me that I needed to change the system programming extension even though they were both the same.

I was wondering if there is a procedure for doing this because I hate to have to go back through and program the R7 from scratch.

i had the same problem on an upgrade also. i backed up the original to my laptop with winspm and then cenverted it to the version of the new processor. then, after i put the new processor in, i had to do a board renumber on it first before i could apply the upgrade. that way the new processor saw the same config as the upgrade file. hope that helps.

thanks, tim

I was getting that error and I did that, but then got another error. I guess I'll have to just keep restoring it and fixing the errors as they arise.

What release of SPM are you using?

-and- What release are you trying to go from and to?

That could be an issue.

I'm using WinSPM Release 9 and going from a R3 processor to a R7 processor

A suggestion:

On the new processor, In SURROGATE MODE, do a complete system erase, then load the new translations.

Once you put the new processor in the BackPlane, a board renumber should eliminate issues.

By doing it in SURROGATE mode, you eliminate the problem with the PROGRAMMING port being moved from the default first port.

What it is telling you is that the Programming port was moved away from that default port.

How do you put the processor in surrogate mode? And how do you do a complete system erase? I can't find those procedured in the manual anywhere.

Surrogate mode:

Put the processor in a backplane with power unit, and nothing else.

Complete system erase:

Menu > Maintenance > Slot > 0 Enter > demand test > then push the button that is 2 below Peek TWICE

That'll do it...

I was able to reset the system to Defaut but was not able to put the porcessor in Surrogate Mode because I do not have a 355A Adapter. I am using WinSPM through my modem so I need the analog card installed to access the processor. I guess I'll have to do it the long way.

WEll, not being able to go into surrogate mode will probably keep you from getting the "CURE".

Perhaps you can peice together a 355 from some of the many posts on this board.

Actually I'm in a pretty small Office (10 extensions) so I can manually program the R7 processor. I was hoping to find a shortcut though.
