We're contemplating upgrading to IP Office 2.1(27) and have a few questions.

First, is it worth it? What are the improvements. We have a very stable system and wouldn't want to mess that up. We've heard rumors about the ability to merge new users. True? Has Phone manager Lite been improved? That is the one thing that has been giving us trouble. If a machine behaves strangely, remove Phone Manager Lite and it usually gets better. Unfortunately the users love it.

Current config
IP412 - Version 2.0(16)
5 x DIG DCPx30 - Version 4.0(16)
Analog POTS16+ - Version 4.0(16)
Analog POTS8+ - Version 4.0(16)
Voicemail Pro - Version 2.0(16) (12 ports)
Phone Manager (Lite) Version 2.0(14)

New versions (I think)
IP412 - Version 2.1(27)
5 x DIG DCPx30 - Version 4.1(27)
Analog POTS16+ - Version 4.1(27)
Analog POTS8+ - Version 4.1(27)
Voicemail Pro - Version 2.1(10)
with a patch to 2.1(14)
Phone Manager (Lite) Version 2.0(14)

I am unable to find any reference to an updated version of Phone Manager Lite. Is it in the IP Office 2.1(27) CD, the 2.1(10) user patch CD, or somewhere else?

My final question is just how hard is this upgrade to do. I have loads of experience with PC , Server, & Router hardware and software, but not much with phone systems. I'd hate to take our phone system down for an extended period because of a blunder. I'd probably be shopping my resume at that point!

Thanks

1) IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!

2) V2.1 does allow a fullmerge of users & groups (add & remove) & most other telephony related features.

3) VM Lite has never been improved, it only gives basic mailbox & simple que functions (comfort msgs only). I would be verry supprised if any additional features are ever added to this product.

4) the upgrade is relatively simple if you follow all the rules. Check Faq940-5354. also see point 1 only upgrade if you have a definite need.

1) if it aint broke dont fix it

2) users Hunt groups & most telephony functions are now fully mergeable in V2.1 (inc add & remove useres & groups)

3) PM lite has not had any new features added.

4) upgrades are fairly easi if you follow all the rules, see faq940-5354 for the IP Office & remember to backup the VM Pro 1st, see VM Pro Manual.

It does resolve some hunt group and phone manager issues (yes, phone manager is on 2.1.10 user patch cd). However, if you are running PRI...for some reason when you upgrade to 2.1(27) the clocking will change from CO to CPE or visa versa. Customer was down half a day because of it and Avaya couldn't tell me how to fix it....just got lucky

Thanks for the info.

I pretty much agree with the "IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!", but if it makes phone manager more stable it may be worth it.

I seem to recall from an earlier post that the version of Phone Manager on the 2.1.10 user Patch CD is 2.1.8. Is that correct? If so, how do I find 2.1.10?

As far as the clocking change, correcting it is as simple as changing the Line Signaling settings...isn't it?

Thanks again

Mark

The 2.1.10 usere CD contains PhoneManager 2.1.8
a patch to upgrade to 2.1.10 is available & if you are unable to locati it on the avaya site I have it available on an FTP server

ftp:ipguru.no-ip.info

if you do make use of it please remember to say thanks
