When I tried to install an Office 2003 upgrade I got an internal machine error, Error 2755. The only references to this error were associated with networks, and they did not apply.
The cause of the problem:
I was a beta tester. When I installed the beta, I was given the option of installing it over my previous version of Office or installing it separately. I choose to install it separately. But when it installed, it did delete files from the previous version. When I installed the upgrade, it uninstalled the Beta and tried to upgrade the previous version--and got Error 2755 because those files were missing
The Solution:
I had to pop in the CD ROM of the previous version of Office first, open one of the programs to pick up the missing files. Once I did that, the Office 2003 install worked fine.
