Last night we upgraded our CS1000M M/G 4.5 with Motorola proccessors to 5.0 with Pentium IV's and Fiji's. Until last night the music on hold was working fine. Now it's sporadic. On the same internal call, first time on hold no MOH just hollow background noise, second time on hold same call MOH excellent quality. New internal call on hold terrible MOH quality. Any ideas on what to look at?

Check the conf. packs?

I would asume you have trunks programmed to the interallia, clip on to the trunks to hear it there.

If it's bad for internal and external, I'd turn off internal Music (which to me is pointless anyways) and see if it always works fine for external. Either way, I'd suspect a Conf/TDS pack revision or maybe even a patch is out there. Heck, an INI might cure it.

To keep Music for trunks, but turn off for internal station to station, this is the command
LD15, FTR_DATA - Set MUS to NO

Not exactly related to the topic but I have a MOH issue... our external MOH sounds horrible.

If I had to describe the quality issue I would say it sounds like a radio channel that is slightly not tuned to the channel or a squelch set right at the cut off so that it cuts in and out.

Internal MOH sounds good so taking the suggestion above I tried turning off the internal MOH but it had no effect on the quality of the external MOH.

Any other ideas I can try to enhance the quality of external MOH.

Just to give a heads up, I'm a total novice at this technical stuff. I was asked (forced?) to take over phone system support when the previous person retired. If we do have a major issue beyond my knowledge there is a phone guy I can call that knows this stuff inside and out but management doesn't think this MOH issue is worth his hourly costs yet our customers complain about it from time to time. If all else fails I might just disconnect MOH all together since dead air is probably better than what we have right now.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.
