I need to update a customer running 4.2 to the current release. I know I have to upgrade to 8.0 first. Is it possible to just purchase the licensing for the current release? Or do I need licensing for 8.0 as well?

Thanks

What do you think about which version is current?
4.2 means ip500v1 or even an older type of IPO.
If you have an ip500v1 then you cannot go any higher than 9.0
9.1 is ip500v2 only.
But 4.2 can go to 7.0 or 8.0 and up to 9.0

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

A 9.0 license allows to run any previous version as well.
My advise is not to upgrade, just build the whole config from scratch on 9.1, saves you some sleepless nights.

But with 9.1 he needs new hardware and no upgrade licence.

It's an ip500v1 so I'll stop at 9.0. Which is good, I just need the scn call park feature. So that works out well. Thanks for your help.

Buying a new V2 and build the config new will not be more expensive than upgrading to 9.0

You have to go through many steps from 4.2 up to 9.0 what will need very much time... and you are able to perform further upgrades...

derflow has a good point here, you will not get a maint contract on old hardware either.

And with GA R10 your firmware will be end of service...
