Best way to upgrade is: Format C:
And then rebuild your server. Depending on the amount of applications you want to publish I should take about 2 or three days, including installing apps, testing and performance tuning. As you might know, installing a citrix server doesn't stop after setup-next-next-finish.
The last Citrix upgrade i did was from NT4TSE to MF XPs 1.0 with 5 published applications and we used new hardware
i completed it in 8hrs and there was only one small printing issue the day after
illuvatar is right format and do a clean install of XP Brock D. Mowry

I have done a migration in a 3 server environment from 1.8 to XPs then load balanced (upgrade to XPa) WITHOUT any trouble what so ever.
The process simple remover. the classic services and installs files and services needed for XP to run smoothly. Rebuilding the servers was totally out of the question in my case because of the complexity of the published applications.
The upgrade process is astraightforward process, the most "difficult" issue I think was to keep track of all the licenses needed if you are using feature release with XP. Make sure you have that crystal clear for yourself and that you use mycitrix for eligable licenses close by so you can get hold of your licenses right away!
And, if you are not confident enough, try it out on one server so you don't crash the total service provided by the citrix applications for your company!
Thanks Chris, I was leaning towards going the way you did because of similar issues. We will try it on 1 server and see how it goes. I am pretty confident we can resolve anything that goes awry.
Did the upgrade last week and it took about 2 1/2 hours.
Did not reformat, just ran right off the XPA CD.
Other than some minor issues with autocreating printers and application set refreshing, it was a piece of cake. Did also note a couple of bugs with Wan users, but found the fixes and knocked that out. The worst thing is the licensing! Thanks for the warning, luckily we had mycitrix up and it was not that bad-that portion of the upgrade took the most time!
XP is sweet, we have already made changes to the apps, the connection settings and are seeing a big improvement in our resource usage.
