Due to compatibility issues with flash 1.7 on MICS 4.1, (simply won't work) have ordered a 2.01 card for the flash.

Do I unplug flash, swap PCMCIA cards and then plug it back in, or is there more to it?

There is no current program database in the flash, so nothing will be lost there as far as mailboxes, greetings etc.

Your process is correct and then program from scratch. Remember to Feature 903 first to set the codes before your try to Feature 983. You can hook you laptop up via serial cable and use Hyperterm to watch the flash come up and be sure it fully boots before you try your feature codes.

Also, be very sure your Flash was never set up as a Flash LITE. If you put a regular card into a Flash that has been configured as a LITE unit, you run the risk of the new card getting restricted to LITE features, and removing the LITE restriction requires a keycode (very hard to come by anymore) or several software cards and some work-around fiddling.

This is the procedure I have found some time ago, it worked for me.

Star Talk Flash Upgrade Procedure

Before you attempt to upgrade the Star Talk please follow the steps listed on this instruction sheet and NOT the steps in Section 3 of the Star Talk Flash Maintenance Manual.

A software upgrade kit contains one PCMCIA ROM card. This card contains all the Star Talk operating software and voice prompts.

Before you begin upgrading Star Talk Flash, warn users of the interruption of service.

To perform a Star Talk Flash software upgrade:

1 Open the module front door.

2.Remove the teladapt cord(s) from the teladapt line jack(s) inside the Star Talk Flash module.
Important: This step must be completed to avoid any possible loss of configuration.

3.Wait one minute before proceeding to the next step.

4.Unplug the AC to the Star Talk Flash module.

5.Remove the current PCMCIA ROM card.

6.Insert the new PCMCIA ROM card into the slot provided on the StarTalk Flash module.

7.Re-insert the teladapt cord(s) into the tel adapt line jack(s) inside the StarTalk Flash module.

8.Plug the AC power back into the Star Talk Flash module.

You may need to configure the Flash after the upgrade.

The Flash should not loose programming.
