Hi all,

Can anyone offer any advice as to whether an upgrade from Delphi 5 to 7 is worthwhile? Are there any big advantages?

The only thing I know of which I think is important, is the DBExpress bit which is replacing the BDE.

Our co. is going to do the same, v5 to v7, so I'm be interested to hear from people too.

Yes please, I don't actually use the BDE, if not is there any reason a) design-wise, and b) final product-wise, to upgrade?

Thanks for the reply Micheal, I have previously read through all the information on this but yet again it's full of Borland hype (as you would expect). I was hoping there might be a delphi 7 user on this forum for an "unbiased" opinon.

Hi

I only have used Delphi6 and Delphi7.
As I can see they have add some more components.. like rave report and test components for intraweb.

Maybe there are some more but I haven't study differences.. just love to code...

Personally, I've found that the Delphi 7 help files are absolute [word deleted by illuminati] compared to the v. 3 ones. I can't find anything in them, whereas I can find what I want within seconds with the older ones. I basically have v7 to use and v3 to get help from.

Major plus over D5 for D7 is it's support for WinXP and 'compatibility' with themes. For D5 you'll have to apply fixes to make it compatible, (I) don't expect anything from Borland in this matter for D5.

It is right that Delphi7 supports WinXp feel and look.
If you need to Create application that have WinXp look alike.. for earlier versions then you had to install extra XpMenu components.
