I upgraded a CUCM 7.1 server (7.1.5.2000.6) to the latest version of 7.1 (7.1.5.33900.10) and as far as I can tell the upgrade was sucessful. I switched versions and it booted OK. Now however the ccmdmin page will not display - I get a 404 saying /ccmadmin/showHome.do as unavailable. I can browse to the other main pages and these seem OK apart from some images on the pages missing.
This is a VMWare installation so not really supported but I thought the upgrade should be OK?

I've had this issue twice before, but with the OS Administration page. The first time, TAC was able to fix it but had to use root access to do it. The second time, they made me boot back to the old partition and redo the install with a slightly different version of CUCM. It was a development lab system, so I accepted that "solution", but obviously that may not work for you if it's production.

Since its all VM it is relatively easy to test and revert etc, the main issue is the size of the images (50+GB) so transferring these around takes time. I think it might be third time lucky or I just didn't give it enough time as I tried again last night and left it for a while and it now seems to have worked - or at least I can get to the ccmadmin page...

It can take a while for the ccm admin page to come up after a server comes up. Especially after an upgrade. I've seen it take as long as 10 minutes after the CLI is available.
