we have two core switches 6509 need to be upgrade to 6509/sup720 and a module with SFP.

6509------junction point----distribution layer switches;
where ----- represents a fiber cable.

Since the original module use old fiber connector--one end ST and the other end is SC, and the new 6509 with SFP, so the SC connectors no longer good.

My question is can I replace a cable that is one end is ST the same as the old one, the other end is an appreiate connector to SFP?

if I can, what is the connector for SFP called. thanks,

Mel,

I would guess that you plan to use the SFP SX or LX/LH transceiver that uses LC connector.

thanks, Avilov,
I think you are right, if I use LC connector, at the other end of the cable, can I use the the same connect, so the topology remains the same from Juction point to distribution layer?

We are in process of replacing every network switch at our facility. However, our fiber infrastructure was installed eight years ago and was all terminated with ST connectors.

We have not had any trouble finding ST-MTRJ or ST-dual LC patch cords to accommodate the new network switches.

I believe most companies have their fiber terminated with ST or SC connectors, so the vendors will manufacture patch cords that will work in conjunction.

Hi

SFP Gbic's require LC type fiber connectors. If you are connecting them to ST type termination boxes you have to find ST-LC patch cable.
