Hi,

I need to start working on upgrade and migration from
CE 8.5 / CR 8.5 / Oracle 8i (Reporting) / SQL Server 2000 (for APS)
TO
CE 10.0 / CR 10.0 / Oracle 9i (Reporting) / SQL Server 2000 (for CMS).

I have requested 2 test servers and will set up one server with CE 8.5 environment and other server with new CE 10.0 environment and then import all the objects to CE 10.0. This is the same approach I am going to follow when I get real servers for this effort.

My questions is, is there any document avaibale which can tell me what all precautions to take, how to import LDAP user, importing other objects, testing stuff and everything else I should know before starting this effort.

Also, is this the right approach by having fresh install on new server and then importing objects OR should I use some other approach.

Please suggest.

Hi,
whenever I have done upgrades doing a fresh install has been a lot simpler if you have the luxury of test servers. You can then do the testing of the software and iron out any issues before importing the objects etc.

As far as documentation I have always used the installation guide from the CE CD as it covers many scenarios including fresh installs and migrations.

Hope this helps.

HI,
That is the method we followed and with few exceptions all went well..The only issues we had were the occasional need to redo the datasource database information for the imported reports.
An important issue we found was to be sure the CE services on the new server(s) were running under a domain account that had full rights/access to the server's file system,to whatever DNS you use and to any file-system databases needed..

We imported 1 or 2 folders ( with associated Users, etc) at a time to start, to minimise disruption and to check for any problems.

Good luck..
