Hi group,

My BCM50 is Rls 1. Now I want to use a Ip softphone 2005. I was told I have to upgrade the BCM50 to the latest version, Rls6 in order for me to be able to use the IP softphone. Is it true? If I do need to upgrade to Rls 6. What exactly do I need and how should I do it?

Thanks for any reply.

yes and no.

An i2050 was available on 50 release 1, subject to ip set keycodes of course. However this will be a very old version and won't be compatible with windows 7 for example.

The early versions (pre version 3 of i2050) were license free. However 3 onwards require a licensing server to be installed.

So for 50r1 you can download the i2050 from the bcm itself ( where xx.xx.xx.xx is BCM IP address). You will need account and password. However this will be a very early version and might give you problems. Otherwise you'll need to pay a support company to upgrade you to release 6 AND deploy a licensing server and cover off the licensing element. Note: this is in addition to IP set licensing on the BCM itself, not instead of.

paul

Thanks Paul, what is the licensing server? Isn't it not part of the BCM50? Does it run on a separate computer?

Thanks
