We are going to purchase an upgrade to Accpac ERP 5.4a. We are currently running 5.1 and i was wondering if there is anything I should know before doing the upgrade. Will dumping all of the companies from 5.1 and then loading the within 5.4 be enough? Is there a chance I wont even have to reload them? We are using the MSSQL version.

That's a long stretch to upgrade in one step, but you might get lucky.

1. Post all open batches
2. Make lots of backups, data and programs included.
3. You don't have to dump and load

Note that several consultants have had issues going directly across that many versions, and have had to upgrade through 5.2 and 5.3 first. You won't know until you get into it, there are too many variables.

Unfortunately we do not have copies, or licenses, for v5.2 or 5.3. If we purchase v5.4 are we entitled to the older versions?

If you are a BP you can download the older versions. If not, get your BP to download it for you, and use the 30 day trial option when you install the software. You can run for 30 days without any problems.
I will got up to 5.3 first, then to 5.4
There was not much change from 5.1 to 5.2 - I think if my memory serves me well, I could be way wrong as well.

The upgrade went very smoothly. I dumped all of our companies before begining and made backups of the existing data dir. This proved to be useful because we forgot to post a couple of things in one of the companies, so we simply went back to 5.1, posted, and reconverted.

We have been running on the new version for close to 2 months now and we have not encountered any problems. I have to say the new version runs a lot smoother than 5.1. They also added in a couple of nice time saving features.
