We have been using a Phaser 850DP for a couple of years to print documents with. The printer is starting to get a little worn and we saw a great deal on a new 850 so we bought it. As it turns out, the new printer is an 850N, and does not support double sided printing. I am wondering if it is possible to take the duplex system out of the old printer and put it in the new one. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

The printer is already physically able to duplex, but the feature set is not enabled by the firmware. The easiest way to enable it is to swap main boards between the printers, though you only need to swap out the code rom dimm from one main board to the other. It looks like a memory dimm and is the one closest to the faceplate of the main board.

Thanks for the suggestion. I swapped the Code ROM (labeled Phaser 850 Ver 1.1 (0011)) and put the board back in. When I put it in and turn it on, I just get both the red and green LED on on the front panel, but nothing on the LCD or anything else. I then put the ROM chips back in the original boards and swapped the whole board. I still only get the two LED's on on the front. Finally, I put the original board back in with the original ROM, and I am still only getting the two LED's. Is there something else I should be doing?

My mistake. I didn't have the mainboard fully inserted. I found that if you kind of rock it back and forth it will pop in. Seems to be working now. Thanks for you help.
