Hello there.'

A weird problem occured after the upgrade from AIX 5.1 to 5.3
I start with a correct working AIX 5.1 64 bit kernel
I removed the rootvg mirror
Then i start the upgrade using the original AIX 5.3 install CDs, choosing migrate install.
The procedure goes well and after the final reboot i can login.
When i type 'bootinfo -r' it says i have zero memory
WHen i type vmstat 1 10 it shows me the 4Gb i have.
When i type lsvg is shows the VG's as a result, but when i type lsvg -l rootvg an error occurs, it cannot find the info in the ODM (which is there if you use odmget in the odmfile)

Using |more gives me an memory allocation error and using |pg there is no problem
SMit is also not working
It seems there is a corrupt link to the ODM, and no, cfgmgr does not work.

Anyone any idea ?? Just shoot .....

thanks

oslevel -r ?

Did you use the update-CD provided with the install CDs and do an "update all"?

We found that anything below 5300-02 is kinda braindead...

Also is your system's microcode up to date?

HTH,

p5wizard

I updated the microcode to the latest level.
I did not use the update CD's to change ML level but the original install CD's , booted from them and chose "migration install"

oslevel -r after update = 5300-00

then i cant install another ML due to the problems then

lppchk -v gives me a segmentation fault thus a core dump

thanks guys.Appreciate

You should still be able to do an update_all without smit, with the update CD in the drive:

Code:
lslpp -lc | awk -F ":" '{print $2}' | tail -n +2 > /tmp/lslpp
installp -agXd /dev/cd0 -e /tmp/install.log -f /tmp/lslpp

HTH,

I personally think that having these problems after the upgrade it wont make much sense to install an update... i think it wont solve the problems.
Personally im thinking that even it seems that its all fuctioning right that there is something wrong in my current situation which makes the update corrupt.

What's your other option? Won't hurt to try is my guess.

Hello Guys...

Problems with upgrading AIX5.1 ML3 to AIX 5.3 caused some problems...
We got the latest CD set from IBM and we did a migration install again and it WORKED !!!!

So there must be a wonrg set of CD's out there which will cause the poblems..

ASK FOR A NEW SET OF CD'S AND UR PROBLEM IS SOLVED !!!!!

I am assuming that you are using the very first set of OS CDs, you should use the ones that are ML1 or above, the very first set of CDs has a lot of bugs, including various security issues.

Or update your installation with at least ML2
