Afternoon all,

I am trying to do an upgrade on a BCM400 3.7 to a 4.0. I am getting the following error:

Problem with keycode file: return value is 8.

What the heck is that? I searched the posts and have seen something about running a Pre-Check. Will that help with the above error? And where do I get the Pre-Check program?

Thanks in advance,
Mroberts

You get the Pre-Check Tool from Nortel's website. I believe the current version is 1.6.

Did you get an authorization code and the resulting keycode before starting the upgrade? If you did, make sure you have the right one. We've had a couple of guys try using the 3.6 code for a 3.7 to 4.0 upgrade. Got the sameerror you're getting.

We did the pre-check and everything turned out fine. My contact called Nortel (who generated the code) and they said they would have to "re-build" the keycode.

The official title of the upgrade kit we got is "BCM3.6, 3.7 to 4.0 upgrade" and our machine is a 3.7.

OK, I've never heard of the "re-build" the keycode thing before but hey, you never know.

Sounds to me like what they really mean is they gave you a 3.6 to 4.0 keycode because that's the error code you get when that happens.

Imagine that, even Nortel guys make mistakes!

I'm sure that once you get the new keycode, things will work just fine, especially if the pre-check passed.

Good Luck.

I hope so. Not all Independent Distributors are the same. My company is above board with keycodes. And it helps to know that even those generated directly from Nortel have their issues.
Thanks

When you order an upgrade kit you have to specify 3.6 to 4.0 Or 3.7 to 4.0. The upgrade CD's are the same, labeled "Upgrade 3.6,3.7 to 4.0".
Look at your Authorization code, it probably say "3.6 to 4.0 upgrade". In this case Nortel will re-issue a new keycode because you paid more for your keycode then what you should've.(3.6/4.0 keycode more expensive then 3.7/4.0).They will not re-issue a keycode if you try to upgrade a 3.7 with a 3.6 keycode.
