Quick question ... when upgrading between the above versions, will this have any effect on installed software, i.e. will I have to re-install?, or does the updgrade "work around" existing software?

Greg.

upgrade should leave all configuration files the same, any non-standard software alone, and just upgrade the solaris release ...

managed to get it to do this once :)

all other times, i've needed more space, and i started from scratch, formatting the disk, could not be bothered with the backup/restore ... :)

You will need to check that the versions of your current software are comptible with the new Solaris release, some may need upgrading.
