Hi,
Greet you all.

Environment:
Solaris 2.8 and AIX 5.1
db2 version 7.1 with fixpack 9

We are upgrading it to db2 v8.1.I got a few doubts:
1. Do we need to remove db2 7.1 and install 8.1 or can we install db2 v8 on v7 with out removing. If so what is the procedure.
2. Do we need to stop the databases while migration.
how much time it would be?
3. What are the os level patches should be installed before installing db2 v 8.1.
4. Can any one share me the document who all had done the migration of database from 7 to 8 . Please share me the procedure how to do on aix and solaris.

5. What problems can come after migration and how can there be fixed.

help is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Nani.

NO you'll install db2 v8 and migrate the instance and the database to it.

2. Do we need to stop the databases while migration.

Nobody should be accessing the database. You'll run the chech utility and just follow the recommendations from the output.

3. What are the os level patches should be installed before installing db2 v 8.1.

Check the IBM website for your OS for all patches that should be installed

4. Can any one share me the document who all had done the migration of database from 7 to 8 . Please share me the procedure how to do on aix and solaris.
Thre and upgrade procedure in the DB2 manual and how to do the migration.

5. What problems can come after migration and how can there be fixed.

All problems are different, you'll need to fix them as needed. You should upgrade to the latest fixpaks to help alleviate any know issues.
