Here is the situation, we are using documents that are automatically generated by a 3rd party software. We recently changed our phone system so we have to change the numbers appearing on those documents. Since modifying the documents at the source is not an option we created word macros that we automatically distributed to our users (creating a dot file and putting it in word startup folder). We now need to change part of those macros. Is there a way to update the macros to the new versions without the users losing their own macros or auto insertions. We have users on XP and others on W2K (both french and english).
Simply deleting the dot file in the word startup folder and replacing it with the new version did not work it only added new macros but did not update existing ones.

Thanks for you help.

best option for you

save the macro and word document in a development area as a normal word document.
Save the macro and word document in a suitable network location as a document template.
In word go to [tools]... [templates and add-ins]...[Add]...

This creates a central macro which everyone will obtain the execution process from. When a change is required make the changes in the original word doc, resave as a doc template over the top of the previous template and this ensures all users have the new code changes automatically.

The add-in also restricts users from being able to edit it or add or delete code from it.

Hope this was the sort of thing you were after?

Cheers

Matt
