Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this. I am not very good with the pc lingo and tech stuff so bear with me.

I need some information from those who are familiar with updating a web site from remote locations on a regular basis.
I am about to embark on a 6 month solo canoe trip and will be followed via the Web by various schools and people. I intend to update the web site every few days with digital photos of my journey as well as text.
I will be using a Dell 300M laptop and a Global Star Satillite phone which acts as a modem. I have the web site up and running now and will be using an FTP server to send the information to while using Dreamweaver Web design to creat the text and photo pages. I hope someone is familiar with the technolgy and/or familair with doing such a thing.
I would appreciate any comments, ideas, suggestions of things to look for and consider. Some of the concerns are listed below:
#1 does it help to creat individual pages on the web site to help speed up the process?
#2 Can you recommend any good programs such as for jpg compression, photo shop for digital image help, or programs to help insure the safelty of my laptop...such as system crash protection, minimizing power usage etc etc.
#4 What are some ways to minimize power usage and battery drain??? How can I minimize the whistles and bells on my laptop to keep the battery from sucking power?
#5 And hints regarding making my system "talk" with my satillite phone so the images and text will be sent smoothly? Any programs?
#6 anyone ever use porable solar panels to recharge laptops? Any tips using them? I have two that I will be using currently.
#7 any type of backup plan or system to consider or look into in case I experience really long download time with my satillite phone? the phone transfers at 9.6kbauds which is slow compared to a regular modem.

Thanks for all your comments and ideas, I really appreciate it. If you have any questions please contact me.
