updating table with expression

I have a form (subform) that has a "balance" field and a "total payments" field - the balance field is =linetotal - How do I get the answer the the linetotal to enter into a differnt form to keep track of the balances so I can make a report of everyones account balance?

You don't. You calculate them again when you run your report. Always store in the database the things you need to derive all the other things you need. But don't store derived things as a general rule.

Ok, however, I have a subform, so do I make a sub-report also...

can I take that expression and put it into a table record? at all? it'd be sooo much easier
