I have an Enterprise server with Windows 2000 on it and trying to connect to a named instance on a 2005 server brings back an error using ODBC with a SQL Server.

After some testing on a test box, it looks like if we update the MDAC version we would be able to connect. I am a little nervous doing this on my only production box. I really do not have the time and resources to do a full test install of Enterprise and migrate everything over to do a 2 minute test.

Does anyone know if this will harm anything on my Enterprise box?

It could I suppose, however I've done so in the past without any ill side effects.

Thanks! I plan on doing it Monday, but I also have a rollback plan in place just in case.

Oh yeah, always have the disaster recovery in place.

I spent 30 hours in a row at S&P because they did not a number of years ago...
