My server backs up 5 IIS servers a night in 2 jobs running at the same time to a two tape drive Autoloader. I am running Arcserve 6.61SP2A.

The backups are written to tape at a reasonable speed, but the job seems to get stuck on "Updating Database" for 6-10 hours. This causes a problem since the end of one of the jobs a post script is called that will reboot the client server.

Pruning the database runs everyday, keeping by history to less than 30 days of data. The Arcserve database is less than 1 gig in size.

What OS and SP level are you running? -----------------------------------------------------

This is Win NT 4.0 SP 6a for the OS and ArcserveIT 6.61SP2A for the app.

Your database is quite big. Obviously your backing up multiple files, check the database directory, I'm sure you've got huge astpsdat files! I suggest a 6 day or so database pruning, and after the first one runs make sure you pack it (dbdefrag). The database size should then shrink as the whitespace is diminished. Can you give me an estimate on the amount of files your doing? Also, check the amount of r* files in the database directory. I bet there are quite a few!!! R files are roll-over files \for the database and one is usually created every n number of files that is backed up. Want an easy option? Just go to options for your job and select databsse record level as none. Then it wont write to the database. you can just merge the tape into the database whenever you need to use it, or restore by query. If all else fails, initialise the database from the server admin console.

Best of luck,
